On Saturday (7/21) at approximately 3 PM, Deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety were on patrol in the area of the Lake Havasu State Park when they observed smoke coming from the area of the launch ramp. Upon arrival, a 2005 25 foot Global Marine single engine boat was located with smoke coming from the engine compartment area. Deputies were able to use several of their on board fire extinguishers to reduce the fire enough to get the boat onto the beach, and away from the docks. The Lake Havasu City Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after and extinguished the fire completely. The operator of the vessel advised that as he was leaving the launch ramp, the boat started to run rough. The operator turned the boat around, and went back towards the ramp where all of the occupants were able to evacuate safely. The cause of the fire appears to be mechanical related. There were no injuries and the boat was salvaged by a local tow boat company.
