Havasu Scanner Feed reported that Mohave County Sheriff’s Waterways deputies responded to boat fire near Site Six boat launch ramp on Lake Havasu late Sunday (11/15) afternoon.
At about 4:35 p.m., deputies and Lake Havasu Fire Department personnel responded. LHCFD extinguished the fire. The owner and operator, Richard Bowen, 44, of Lake Havasu City, had just launched his boat from the Site Six launch ramp. Bowen advised that while he was leaving the launch ramp that his boat stalled. Bowen further advised that he was able to coast to the shoreline. Bowen said that while he was coasting, he attempted to start the boat until he looked back and saw the rear half of his boat on fire. Bowen was the only occupant onboard and he was able to get to the shoreline without any injuries. Bowen’s boat is considered to be a total loss at approximately $40,000. The boat was a 25-foot Baja. A salvage company responded and removed the boat. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A mechanical problem is believed to be a factor. Today’s News Herald reported that the boat was insured.
