Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam.  A Lake Havasu City resident reported receiving a telephone call claiming to be a law firm and that he bounced a check and he needed to make arrangements.  Then the same resident got a call shortly after the first call.  The subject said that he is a Sergeant with the Mohave County Sheriff and that he did not pay the check then he would issue a warrant for his arrest.

The reporting party was smart enough to know that it was a scam and he hung up on the subject.  The reporting party also said his caller id showed the correct phone number for the Sheriff’s Office in Lake Havasu City as 928-453-0745.

The deputy taking this report advised that the Sheriff’s Office phone system in Lake Havasu City does not display this phone number.

This is a scam and the Sheriff’s Office advises you to hang-up and never give personal information over the phone or the computer. Also, never send money via wire transfers or money cards.  If you suspect fraud, contact your local law enforcement office.
