On April 5, 2015, at approximately 6:17 p.m. Lake Havasu City Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 Block of McCulloch Boulevard North for a reported two vehicle traffic accident with injuries. Officers arrived on scene and found that a motorcycle had struck the rear of a Dodge pickup truck.
Investigators determined that a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 41- year old Michael Washburn was traveling eastbound on McCulloch Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck which was also traveling eastbound on McCulloch Boulevard. The Dodge Dakota was driven by 20-year old Courtney Barker. This caused the motorcycle to go down and into a side slide. Washburn was ejected from the motorcycle and onto the roadway. Washburn sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he was ultimately flown to the Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Michael Washburn succumbed to his head injuries at the Sunrise Medical Center. Barger was uninjured during the collision.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team is continuing its investigation of the collision. It has been determined that Washburn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this investigation.
