Police Department Awarded Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant
The Lake Havasu City Police Department was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Governors Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to be used for conducting DUI and traffic enforcement operations. An additional $10,000 in monies was awarded for the purchase of radar equipment. This grant provides the Lake Havasu City Police Department the ability to increase DUI enforcement capabilities by assigning personnel on overtime to concentrate on DUI and traffic enforcement activities.
The goal for this year’s grant is to assign a police officer at least once a week to concentrate on DUI and traffic enforcement in an effort to remove or deter impaired drivers from being on the roads and make driving safer for all motorists.
This year’s grant began on Friday, May 16 2014 and will extend through September, 30 2014. During the first phase of the assigned enforcement detail officers made 170 motorist contacts, investigated and made 14 arrests for DUI related crimes and issued 80 traffic citations.
As part of the grant safety contract the Lake Havasu City Police Department is required to maintain and submit statistics to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
