Mohave County Sheriff’s Waterways deputies responded to a single boat accident with no injuries near Havasu Palms early Sunday (8/13) evening. Approximately 4:55 p.m., deputies responded to a boat explosion where both of the occupants jumped into the water after the explosion. A female subject and male subject of Havasu Palms were boating in the area of Havasu Palms when they heard a hissing sound coming from the engine compartment. They investigated by lifting the engine compartment and the engine ignited. Both subjects jumped into the water and did not suffer any injuries. Passerby’s brought the female subject and male subject onto their boat. Their 21-foot 1991 Hallett boat became fully engulfed. Some folks on wave runners were able to put the fire out by spraying the vessel as they drove by numerous times. The boat was a total loss. Vessel assist was in the immediate area and assisted. This accident remains under investigation.
