Mohave County Sheriff’s Waterways deputies responded to a single boat injury accident north of the Three Dunes on Lake Havasu early Monday (9/22) evening. Approximately 6:02 p.m., deputies responded to the scene of where a 1997 Excel 17-foot boat struck a reef and injured all three people onboard. The boat operator is from Lake Havasu City while both passengers are from Houston, Texas. One of the passengers identified as Susan Arlene Soph, 61, was ejected and landed on shore while the operator, James John McDermott, 58, got pinned under the steering column. Kelly Wilson, 38, the second passenger, received minor injuries. Lake Havasu Fire Department personnel freed McDermott from being pinned. McDermott was airlifted to West Valley Hospital in Phoenix. Soph was airlifted to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wilson was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center where she was treated and later released. This accident remains under investigation and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
