Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam.  The victim, a Lake Havasu City resident, reported receiving a telephone call about her son being in an accident and needed money to get him out of jail for his DUI charges.  The victim sent a money gram to a Wal-Mart in Massachusetts.  The victim said they called her later and informed her that they needed more money, but she realized it was too late and it was a scam.  The incoming phone number was (347) 286-7159 which originated in New York.

The Sheriff’s Office recommends calling a relative to verify the information, before sending any money.   If you suspect fraud, contact your local law enforcement office.
