MCSO Warns of Phone Scam

A report came into the PIO office in reference to a phone scam. A citizen received a call from a male subject who identified himself as Lt. Howard with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. He warned the female citizen that she had a warrant and needed her to pay her fines via credit card. No information was given to the male caller. I personally called the phone number (928-923-3934). The voice mail message indicates that “Lt. Howard with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is not available at this time.” This individual does NOT work for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office will not call you to tell you that there is a warrant for your arrest. We do not collect fines or fees over the phone or in person, period. Please be smart and be aware of these con artists. If you question the validity of a phone call from a Deputy, please call the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at 928-753-0753. It is that time of year folks! DO NOT give any information over the phone to these scammers!
