Posted on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 at 11:12 AM

Mohave County Sheriff’s Waterways deputies responded to a non-injury boating accident that occurred on the Colorado River near the mini sandbar in the area of Castle Rock Bay Saturday (9/3) evening. At about 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to the scene of where a 31-foot twin motor formula boat came to a stop on land, approximately 60 feet into the weeds. Investigations determined the boat was traveling approximately 35 miles per hour when the boat struck land on the Arizona side of the river. The boat was occupied by eight subjects including the operator, Michael Mitchell, and several juveniles. The cause of the crash was attributed to the nighttime conditions, the operators inexperience in navigating the waterway, and speed. Alcohol is not a factor. The operator was issued a citation for failing to control speed to avoid an accident. There were no injuries reported.

In the spotlight is a 31-foot twin motor formula boat that landed on land Saturday (9/3) evening.
